Convention is like a family reunion

By Sarah Henderson – Today was a good reminder of why it is great to be a republican. We got to see so many of our friends in the GOP from all over the state and across the country that we have not seen in quite a while. It was like a family reunion.

Hurricane Gustov began and remains the topic on most people’s minds. Much of the pre-set convention schedule is in limbo as to who will actually attend and speak. As Cedar Rapidians, we are sensitive to the stress on the people of the Gulf States, but it gets frustrating to hear all the media coverage of a natural disaster that has yet to occur when we are 3 months removed from the worst natural disaster in Iowa history and to this day have not gotten ANY help from the democratically controlled congress. Dave Loebsack recently stated that “he was ready to talk flood relief”. Well its about time! It’s no wonder congress only has a 9% approval rating. Note to self, that is why we are voting Miller-Meeks for Congress.

After a full day of travel and delegate welcome festivities, things got crazy for us. As Secretary Northey reported, our bus driver got lost on the way to the first reception. Following that, we made our way with a group to downtown Minneapolis. We left the last event pretty late and then spent the next two hours searching three different parking ramps for our carpool driver’s car (we weren’t with him when it was parked). After 2 hours of our best real life re-creation of a Seinfeld episode, we found the car and made it back to the hotel. Our day concluded in the AM and would see each other again in a few short hours for breakfast to start our day.

Today’s convention will be business only for a few hours this afternoon. We will be busing over early afternoon. More later…
